Initiation and a brief overview
The Department of Political Science, Mekliganj College, was established in the year 1996. Initially, the Department conducted only Programme Course and in 2006 the Department introduced the Honours Course. Since then the department has made remarkable progress in teaching and extension work. As Mekliganj is a remote sub-division of Cooch Behar District of West Bengal here students get limited opportunities in receiving advanced and quality education. Hence from the very beginning, the Department committed to deliver quality education to the students. We have number of constraints, but still we are trying to provide quality education to the students so that they can make themselves capable of achieving success in life.
Right from its inception Department of Political Science has tried to get engage in teaching and various extension activities. It has been contributing in shaping the intellectual life of the students. In order to equip students with awareness about parliamentary democracy, the Department also organizes youth Parliament programme as a part of curriculum. The faculties of the Department always extends helping hands to the pass out students if they face any problem in their further studies.. In short, the Department always tries to work for the quality teching and betterment of the students.
Vision
Since its inception Department of Political Science has the vision of imparting modern educational techniques so that the students can make them familiar with the changing domain of political science. It is also our vision to encourage the students to develop a critical mind for analysing each and every political issue so that they can contribute to the further growth of the subject.
Mission
From the very beginning the mission of the Department is to impart academic excellence in teaching and extension of community activities, so that the students can receive quality teaching. It is also our mission to provide value education to the students in all spheres of life. The Department also has the mission of introducing extension activities in order to create free, just and humane society. Not but the least, it is our mission to involve students in community activities so that they can develop a sense of community belongingness.
